WV Wraparound and Children's Mobile Crisis Response

The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) is working across its bureaus to improve access to and availability of community-based services for children and youths with serious emotional disorders or disturbances (SED) or serious mental illnesses (SMI), as well as all families and youths needing community-based behavioral health services, including Wraparound and Children’s Mobile Crisis Response and Stabilization. To learn more about DoHS’s commitment to systemic improvement, visit https://kidsthrive.wv.gov/Pages/default.aspx.

To serve these behavioral health workforce needs, DoHS’s Bureau for Behavioral Health (BBH) has developed training curricula and related fidelity measures and provides technical assistance on Wraparound and Mobile Crisis Response for behavioral health professionals.

For Families

What is Wraparound?

The National Wraparound Implementation Center describes Wraparound as an ecologically based process and approach to care planning that builds on the collective action of a committed group of family, friends, community, professional, and cross-system supports mobilizing resources and talents from a variety of sources resulting in the creation of a plan of care that is the best fit between the family vision and story, team mission, strengths, needs, and strategies.

West Virginia Wraparound combines services from DoHS’s Bureau for Behavioral Health, Bureau for Social Services, and Bureau for Medical Services in providing High Fidelity Wraparound – an evidenced-based and sustainable model for serving youth and families with the highest needs.

What is Children's Mobile Crisis Response?

Children’s Mobile Crisis Response and Stabilization Services, sometimes referred to as Mobile Response and Stabilization services, are available statewide for children and youths up to age 21 and their families. They access this through the Children’s Crisis and Referral Line to help interrupt behavioral health crises by connecting families with behavioral health services in their communities.

The option to call, text, or chat is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 844-HELP4WV or 844-435-7498 (call or text) or by chat at https://www.help4wv.com/ccl

Mobile crisis response teams have individuals with specialized training in de-escalation tools and knowledge of resources to assist individuals up to 21 years old in stabilizing the immediate situation. Staff then assist these individuals in accessing programs to help keep them safe, healthy, and happy in their homes, schools, and communities.
